Open Sourcing the Google Browser Sync client was something we'd always planned to do, and we're pleased to say that the code for it is now yours for the taking. Given our recent decision to discontinue support for Browser Sync, we wanted to make sure that the code for it was available for the developer community to use and improve. While we're no longer doing active development, we've released the code in the hopes that those folks who asked for it will use it to develop something cool. For example, it would be great to see the server ported to Google App Engine, or support for Firefox 3 implemented.
You can check out the code using any Subversion client, and we have posted a short tutorial explaining how to build and run it.

As a student (having so many account around campus) this was excellent to synchronize my home computer, my school computer, and my work computer.
This add-on was great, as I've heard beeing mentioned, the lack of interested may be due to lack of advertisment.
Hope it get's going again.
This app is (was?) great for students. I use it to synchronize my laptop with my desktop with all computers on campus, and the computers at work.
Sucks to have it discontinued, it was nice having it tied in with the google account.
I'm really pleased about this. I'm sure support for Firefox 3 will be forthcoming soon.
Where is the server code and server API?
Are google going to release this? What use is the client without it?
Opera already has it. www.operalink.com AND it syncs with its mobile version, Opera Mini.
I second that, great news, great move.
Subversion in this case can become tedious.
What if google later decides to continue the product, and merge others improvements? Or others decide to merge googles?
A distributed version control system would be the right tool here.

Excited... been wondering if the source will ever get released...
I would like to see two things:
1) Port browsersync to Firefox 3
2) Build an open source server that can run on Linux/FreeBSD/etc so users can synchronize to their own servers.

i hope the mozilla guys make good use of some of the code and use part of it on weave.
